Pre-Entry Quarterly Classes

U.S. Pretrial Services for the District of New Jersey offers this class to defendants and their families to help reduce fear, stress, and anxiety associated with the sentencing.
By providing general information about the sentencing process, the Bureau of Prisons, and the U.S. Probation Office, we hope to reduce the level of anxiety, fear, and confusion experienced by defendants and their family members.
Please note that U.S. Pretrial Services cannot predict or guarantee the actual outcome of any case, BOP designation, or experience.

PRETRIAL SERVICES SUPERVISION
Pretrial Services is the front door for a defendant facing federal charges. Our main goal for defendants under our supervision is to reduce the risk of nonappearance at all future court hearings and reduce the risk of danger to the community. Pre-Entry classes address these issues by reducing the fear of the unknown.

SENTENCING PROCESS

Once you enter a guilty plea or are found guilty by a jury, you will be interviewed by a presentence officer from the U.S. Probation Office. This report will be submitted to the Court at the sentencing hearing. After the Court considers information presented by the government, defense and Probation, the Judge will impose a sentence.
SELF SURRENDER
If you are allowed by the Court to self-surrender, you will still be under the supervision of Pretrial Services and must continue to report as directed. The Bureau of Prisons will designate you to a facility based on certain criteria.
